Bukowski Painting- In the Details

William Bukowski
Peak Summer (detail)
in progress

I had a chance to see a Bonnard painting at the Minneapolis Art Institute today.  I really liked how unintentional his brushwork looks.  I also liked his use of blue and violet.  I've seen the painting at least a couple of hundred times, but right now it seems more relevant.  This is a detail of one of my garden paintings.  I am beginning to feel like this is coming together.

Oh, Bonnard! I still remember the first time I saw his work at MIA - "across a crowded [gallery], our eyes met..." etc. and I was entranced. There's a Bonnard show here at the Met - and I'm dying to see it! Ah, Bonnard!

It is hard to beat a good Bonnard. He has been on my mind lately.
